Grown extensively throughout Australia, azaleas are much loved spring flowering shrub. Ranging from 0.5 metres-2 metres in height, there is a huge range of hybrids that ensure that there is an azalea to suit virtually every position and purpose for every garden. Some varieties such as White Bouquet, Red Wings & Evonne Gooagong will spot flower over several months and tolerate full sun. Traditional varieties like Alba Magna, Splendens, Exquisite, Alphonse Anderson & Magnifica are all tall sun varieties used for hedging.

Azaleas should be sprayed at least twice a year if grown in Sydney (Late October & December) against Red Spider Mite & Lacebug with an insecticide labelled Confidor or Folimat.

They prefer a soil P.H. level of 5.5 - 6.5, thus avoid lime and feed with cow manure & peat moss. To lower P.H. level, Sulphur powder may be added to the soil at any time.
