Camellias

Camellia Species

CAMELLIA JAPONICA

These species of Camellia are ideally suited to full shade to semi-shade positions in the garden or pots larger than 450mm in diameter. If planting in pots, try to avoid cement containers that are unsealed as roots may come into contact with concentrations of  lime.

Camellia Japonicas flower throughout Winter, most varieties flowering for a period of 2 months. Shades of pink, reds, lemon yellows & white are available in singles, semi-doubles & doubles in all colours.

Camellias enjoy rich humus soils with peat content & cow manure top dressings, both materials being acidic in P.H. readings. There are few pest problems with these plants, however keep a watchful eye for scale & red spider insects.
