CONIFERS FOR SCREENING
Cupressus leighton Green The most widely used conifer for hedges & screens. Possibly the fastest growing & tolerant to clay soils & coastal positions. Requires regular pruning at least twice a year to keep under 2 - 3 metres as a tightly clipped hedge . If not maintained will reach a height of 6 metres plus - suited to large properties as roots can be invasive. Available in all size pots 200mm - 150 ltr bags.
Cupressus Torulosa Commonly known as '' Bhutan Cypress''. Growth is very upright & symmetrical to 7 metres by 3 metres at base. Ideally suited as background plants, windbreaks or screens on large properties. Dark green foliage, drought resistant. Available in all sizes
Thuya Plicata Commonly known as ''Western Red Cedar''. Foliage is deep geen & of rigid bookleaf shape. Possibly the most hardiest conifer on the market, tolerant to all soil types & diverse climates. Immunity to Cypress canker & generally pest tollerant. Provides a permanent screen to 8 metres, average growth with plantings approx. 1.2 metres apart. Available in 200mm & 300mm pots
CONIFERS FOR NARROW GARDENS OR PLACEMENT ADJACENT TO PATHWAYS
Cupressus sempirveirens glauca An attractive slender erect conifer to 5 metres x 0.6 metres. This species has the most uniform & consistant growth of all the pencil pines available. Dark green with a blueish tinge. Relatively fast growing prefering a full sun position, salt tolerant. Ideal conifer for spacing in lines to acheive a tuscan landscape. Available in all sizes to 100 ltr bags
Cupressus nitsce's needle An upright pencil pine to 5 metres x 0.5 metres. Foliage is blue - grey in appearance, tolerates most soil types & extreme exposure. Used as contrast in a formal gardens. Staking to 2 metres is generally recommended. Available in 200mm & 300mm pot size
Cupressus sempervirens ''Swanes Golden'' Pencil pine Developed by Swanes Nursery, Dural. A true golden colour excellent for foliage & structural contrast in the garden. An upright erect habit reaching not much larger than 3 metres in height x 0.6 metre width with relatively slow growth rate. Requires full sun exposure in a deep soil situation with regular watering during prolonged dry conditions. Available in 200mm, 300mm & 500mm pot size
Juniperus Spartan Widely used in Australia recently as a formal screening plant or to give a mediterranean feel to the garden. Growth is relatively slow with a 3metre height expectation after 3 years, width can be up to 0.8 metres at the base, however the Spartan has a much nicer appearance if slightly manicured or trimmed once a year. Does best in full sun & is tolerant to most soil conditions, few pest problems. Available in all sized pots
