Cottage Plants

Cottage plants are defined as perennials that have only a small amount of woody tissue, softer stems and branches than those of trees and shrubs.

Some of these are called herbaceous because although their root system have an indefinite life, their leaves and branches may die down each year.

Whether herbaceous or enduring, no garden should be without some representative of these versatile and complementary plants.

 

        

 

Agapanthus

'Peter Pan'

An intermediate form of Agapanthus growing to height of 60cm including its sky blue flowers appearing in December.

The more common variety growing up to a height of 1.5mtrs. Available in blue & white. Commonly used in mass plantings & borders especially along driveways.

An old fashioned free flowering shrub to 1mtr. Full sun & requires a frequent cut back to keep a tidy shrub.

Meaning two-toned leaves. Bush (green leaf, upright growth) and Ivy's (which are hanging or climbing varieties) available in most colours.

Geraniums flower all year in full sun. Require a dose of Dolomite or Lime regularly. Spray with Dipel Insecticide to combat leaf eating insects.
