Tips & Advice for Potted Colour - Seedlings and Herbs

Tip 1: Annuals and potted colour look their best planted as borders in long drifts. Water the area to be cultivated the night before then turn the soil to a depth of 20cm and add well-rotted compost or cow manure with a dressing of Garden Lime (1kg to every 4 square metres). The bed should then be re-watered and left for the weed seed to germinate. Remove weeds by raking out, before maturing. Seedlings are now ready to be planted.

Tip 2: Prune all seedling plants, this induces bushiness and reduces stress.

Tip 3: Pinch out all flower spikes produced by parsley, chives, coriander and basil. This prolongs the life of the plant and sends it into a vegetative growth surge. Liquid feed with Aquasol or seaweed based emulsion. A cup of Blood & Bone may be added to potting mix if growing herbs in containers.
